Sash Window Painting in Canary Wharf: What to expect

Most Canary Wharf (E14) sash projects are on high-rise apartmentss with 10–20 windows of mixed condition. We hand-strip failing paint, repair the putty and open joints, ease the cords and pulleys so the sashes run again, prime with a microporous system, then finish in two coats of Sikkens or Dulux Trade Weathershield. Done once, properly, the exterior finish lasts 7–10 years.

Sash windows in E14 are mostly found in the older Docklands stock — the converted warehouses and Victorian terraces on the edge of Canary Wharf towards Limehouse and Cubitt Town, rather than the towers. That river-facing exposure is punishing: south and east elevations take wind-driven rain straight off the Thames, so we strip back to sound timber, repair rather than fill where we can, and use a flexible exterior system rated for coastal-grade exposure.

Canary Wharf decorating is a logistics job as much as a painting job. Most of our E14 work is inside managed high-rise buildings around Pan Peninsula, South Quay, Wood Wharf and Marsh Wall, where lift bookings, loading-bay slots, concierge sign-in and protection of communal corridors all have to be arranged before a brush comes out. We carry public liability insurance certificates and method statements for building managers as standard, use low-odour water-based coatings so neighbouring flats aren't affected, and can work evenings or weekends where a building or an office restricts daytime noise. Typical jobs: full apartment repaints between tenancies, spray-finished fitted wardrobes and kitchens in new-build towers, and commercial and office decorating around trading hours.
